Town Planning

How do you sum up 6 months of a different life?

I spent a semester studying at the Technische Universität Berlin in Berlin. First and foremost Berlin is an incredible city. There is always something happening, a thousand interesting places to go out, to eat, to relax in the sun on a hot day, to see a band play, observe a work of art, be amongst nature... it is a city fuelled by culture and the arts. From a town planning perspective it is an ideal city to study in, with both a strong town planning program at the TU and an urban landscape steeped in history.

The whole exchange experience was so different to anything I’ve done before but so much fun and so surprisingly easy to adjust to; including living in a share house, dealing with the bureaucracy and even studying and communicating in another language (which was definitely a big challenge).

I now know that exchange is valuable on a lot of different levels. Apart from making friends from all over Europe, learning about another culture and experiencing an independence like I’ve never had before, I improved my language skills, learned a lot about German history, culture, and town planning practices at the TU.  I also gained an inside-out knowledge of one of the world’s most vibrant cities.

I cannot recommend exchange enough and encourage anyone who can to get involved.
