Receiving feedback on your exams and assessments can feel stressful, which is why UNSW Law & Justice has prepared some tips and advice on maximising the outcome of a Review of Results.

If you are unsatisfied with your assessment grade and believe that it was not done correctly, try the following before submitting an official Review of Results:

  • Immediately seek direct feedback from your tutor regarding your mark via email and cc the convenor.
  • In your email, you must demonstrate direct engagement with the marking criteria and cogent reasons why you believe there has been an error in addition of marks or application of the marking criteria.

Please note that there may be delayed responses from academic staff due to the UNSW Shutdown period, and limited academic staff availability during January 2024.

If you are unable to resolve your queries with the tutor or convenor within the 5 working day period immediately following release of your final result, or the notification of your mark following a supplementary exam, you should go ahead and submit your application for review of results within the prescribed time. Do not wait for a response from the class teacher or convenor before submitting your application.

Things to note about the Law & Justice Review of Results:

  • Submission of a Review of Results application does not automatically mean that there will be a re-mark. It means that the result will be investigated and reviewed in accordance with faculty processes, which may or may not require a re-mark.
  • Faculty of Law & Justice marking processes are very thorough, with the result that very few appeals are ultimately successful (on average about 6%).
  • Fail grades have already been double marked and rarely result in a change of mark.
  • Plan your future enrolment around the possibility that your mark may remain unchanged.
  • Please note that an application for Special Consideration is a different process to a review of results and eligibility for Special Consideration is not a reason to apply for a review of results. When illness or circumstances beyond your control interfere with your assessment performance, you may be eligible to apply for special consideration.
