About the program

Applications are now open for CDEV3013 Experience Term (Circular Economies) for Term 3 2023. This is a dedicated 12 UoC General Education course designed to enable a deeply immersive term-long experience in learning about the social and environmental impact of circular economies including the material science of recycling, business and economic drivers, and social policy dimensions. This interdisciplinary course is undertaken in Sydney and India with a day trip to the Shoalhaven City Council’s recycling MICROfactorieTM in Nowra, in partnership with Kandui Technologies.

Would you like to learn about the why, what, and how of a circular economy and see it in action in Australia and India?

In collaboration with SMaRT@UNSW you will learn about circular economy models in Australia and India and explore various aspects including recyclable waste, business models, human and social factors, policy, and empowerment.

The course will include a visit to a SMART@UNSW MICROfactorieTM in the NSW Shoalhaven Region, Nowra, where you can learn about innovative waste management techniques and circular economy practices in Australia.

In the second half of the term you will travel to India to undertake a 20-day study tour to see the significant social and economic impact of circular economies in action. You will interact with SMART@UNSW’s local Indian partners as well as local communities. Before departing, you will undertake an online module, ‘Reimagining India’ as part of the coursework requirements.

The course is an excellent opportunity for students from all disciplines who are interested in learning about sustainability and circular economies. It will provide you with valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of circular economies as you bring your own disciplinary knowledge and skills to the interdisciplinary discussions of the CDEV3013 cohort.

You are eligible to apply if you are an undergraduate student and have 12UOC available in your degree to undertake the General Education course CDEV3013.
