This page contains instructions on uploading a file to your Moodle course—for example, to a forum post.

How to upload a file to your Moodle course

 Drag and drop method

Into the file upload box (labelled Attachment in the graphic below), drag and drop the file you want to attach.

Do not exit this page without saving your changes, posting to the forum etc., or the nominated files will not be uploaded.

File picker method

  1. In the file upload box, click the Add (1) icon at the top left.
  2. In the File picker, click Upload a file (2).
  3. In the file upload window, Choose File/Browse (3) for a file, select it and click Open.
  4. In the File picker, complete the remaining fields and click Upload this file. The filename of the uploaded file displays in the box.

Do not exit this page without saving your changes, posting to the forum etc., or the nominated files will not be uploaded.

Recommended file size

Some upload limits (typically 20MB) have been set in Moodle —a warning message will display if your file exceeds these limits.

In general, keep your attachment file sizes as small as possible.

File extensions

Windows determines file types by their extensions. Before you attach a file, make sure that the filename contains an appropriate Windows extension (e.g. ".doc"). Macintosh users should take particular care to add file extensions to filenames, or PC users will be unable to open their attachments.
