
If you are wondering what it would be like to be a lawyer in practice, then participating in a mooting or mediation competition will give you a good idea. UNSW offers an elective course in international competitions so students can prepare and conduct a mock case before an international tribunal or mediate in an international setting.

Jessup International Law Moot Competition
The Jessup International Law Moot Competition is the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from roughly 700 law schools in 100 countries and jurisdictions. The Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. One team is allowed to participate from every eligible school. Teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case.
Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition
The Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition fosters the study of international commercial law and arbitration and provide a practical training to students for resolving international business disputes. The business community’s marked preference for resolving international commercial disputes by arbitration is the reason this method of dispute resolution was selected as the clinical tool to train law students.
Oxford International Intellectual Property Law Moot Competition
The Oxford International Intellectual Property Law Moot Competition is widely recognised as the leading international competition in the field of intellectual property law. The competition begins with an exacting written stage, with universities around the world preparing 3,000‑word memorials for both appellant and respondent. These submissions are assessed on a double‑blind basis with the top 32 teams invited to compete in the oral rounds held at the University of Oxford.
International Chamber of Commerce Mediation Competition
The International Chamber of Commerce Mediation Competition is a globally-renowned moot that hosts more than 100 mock mediation sessions over six days to name a winning team. The event gives students the opportunity to put theory into practice and to interact with some of the world’s top mediators while offering the professionals the opportunity to engage and shape the next generation of mediators and mediation users through guidance, feedback and support.

The IBA-VIAC Consensual Dispute Resolution Competition (CDRC) is the leading global consensual dispute resolution moot competition, attracting top students annually to Vienna.
