In celebration of Earth Day on April 22 2023, the International Universities Climate Alliance in collaboration with the Climate Students Movement, World Poetry Slam Organization and the UNSW Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture, presents an International Poetry Slam Festival on the theme 'Re-imagining Our World.'
Students, staff and community from across the globe are invited to join us in sharing their vision for a fairer, more sustainable world in a festival that aims to be inclusive, friendly and fun.
The festival culminates in an international online poetry slam competition and will include optional workshops with experienced slam poets helping you to develop your confidence and skills in performance poetry. Final entries for the online competition will be accepted via video submission and the top 20 eligible submissions will be published via Instagram.
Theme
Poems should explore re-imagining our world in the context of Earth Day 2023.
Address how our world could be reshaped, redirected or re-imagined for all. Poems can explore the following topics:
- How you imagine what sustainable lifestyles and consumption behaviors look like.
- How do you accord climate justice to those who currently are unfairly dealing with the worst effects of climate change?
- What dreams do you have for innovation and technology solutions?
- Describe cultural and local solutions, or define an eco-civilisation.
Both workshops and the finale event will be held virtually online. In addition to this, some locations will offer in-person workshops and events. After registration local partners will reach out separately regarding local opportunities.
