Current work activities and projects

I'm still quite new as it's my third day in the program while I'm creating this profile. However so far, I've been learning about the context of the organisation 20-30 years ago, its mission statement, strategic goals and planned expansion in response to an undoubtable push towards a greener future in Australia with the decarbonisation of energy.

Highlights of the role

The training, mentorship and regard for employees the company has is something that I am really proud of as an employee of the organisation.

Achievements

  • Received service project manager of the year award in 2021
  • Was offered a project director role in 2021 for a build and construct project
  • Completed full time university whilst undertaking full time work in 2020
  • Experiencing managing large projects and large teams throughout NSW
  • Completed thesis on material resolutions for Western Sydney Airport construct project

Highlights of UNSW

I'll never forget the friendships I made and the fun experiences which shaped my ability to think on my feet, organise my time but also get amongst it and have fun. UNSW really does offer an invaluable experience both in the educational and social aspects.

How has UNSW Employability team contributed to your career development?

The team really helped me narrow down what I wanted to do coming out of uni. They also encouraged me to take some time to think about it and reiterate that there was no pressure to get straight into the workforce. I think this really helped when I took a bit of a break to recalibrate my thoughts as well as my personal and professional identities.

Advice for current students

Enjoy your time at UNSW. Enjoy the moments you have in both quiet and busy times. You will never experience them again in the professional world. You don't have to be so eager to get into the workforce as soon as you can. You will undoubtedly reach success given time and consistent effort in the future. For now, enjoy what is in front of you as it is an opportunity that only comes once (especially for those that are still young).
