Join ANSTO Group Executive, Pamela Naidoo-Ameglio, and learn about her journey from mining to nuclear safety at the 25th annual Kenneth Finlay Memorial Lecture Alumni and Industry event.
Australia has been mining uranium for more than 70 years - very similar to the timeframe that Australia has been operating nuclear research reactors (and only slightly shorter than the creation of the MARVEL universe).
Safety in mining operations has changed radically over that period to decrease high fatality rates, but nuclear safety approaches have been pretty consistent in preventing fatalities.
Pamela will discuss radiation basics, similarities and differences in the safety systems, risk management approach, regulators, and stakeholders. She will also cover radiation safety in uranium mining and some aspects of managing waste - with the occasional reference to comic book heroes.
