You will be given an Equitable Learning Plan (ELP) containing a summary of your agreed provisions by your Equitable Learning Facilitator at the end of your first appointment.

What is an Equitable Learning Plan?

An Equitable Learning Plan documents the support that the School/Faculty needs to provide you with so you can meet the course requirements. 

The plan does not disclose the nature of your disability.

Your educational adjustments will remain in place for the duration of your course unless otherwise specified by your Equitable Learning Facilitator, or your circumstances change.

Depending on the nature of your condition, we may require you to provide regular documentation updates, especially if your condition fluctuates.

The plan will remain the same each year, unless you come in and discuss any changes with your Equitable Learning Facilitator or if you are notified that your documentation needs to be updated.

What to do with your Equitable Learning Plan (ELP)

  • Once you have been given an ELP, you must email it to the course coordinator within one week of receiving it.
  • It is important that you arrange a meeting within the first two weeks of each term to discuss your provisions, in person, with all your lecturers and course coordinators. Your lecturers will require a copy of the ELP so they can put the educational adjustments in place. Delaying the discussion could mean your adjustments are not put in place when you require them.

When are Equitable Learning Plans issued?

  • Your ELP will be issued at the end of your first appointment with your Equitable Learning Facilitator and will be valid for one year to cover Terms 1, 2 and 3, and Summer School if required. 
  • You will also receive a new copy of your ELP if your ELP is updated by your Equitable Learning Facilitator.
  • Your ELP will be emailed to your student email account. Please check your email account regularly, even during term break.

Updating your Equitable Learning Plan

  • If you require changes to your ELP, let your Equitable Learning Facilitator know as soon as possible.
  • You may be asked to bring in updated documentation to support the changes you require.
  • You will need to discuss any changes with your Equitable Learning Facilitator before your ELP can be updated.

Extensions for assignments

  • Your ELP may contain a one week assignment extension. However, if you need to rely on this extension, you must talk to your lecturer and advise them that you would like this extension implemented. Speak to your lecturer as soon as possible and well before the due date. (If this process needs further clarification, contact your Equitable Learning Facilitator.)
  • You should not assume that extensions will automatically be granted by your lecturer.
  • You will need to submit the assignment by the date you have agreed with your lecturer.
  • Additional extensions to those documented in your ELP will not be considered by your lecturer without a Special Consideration application.
  • Where an extension deadline is not met, normal penalties may apply to handing work in late.

Attendance requirements

  • Please talk to your Equitable Learning Facilitator as soon as possible if you are experiencing any problems with meeting attendance requirements and before you fall below the requirement.
  • Many courses have set attendance requirements for tutorials, seminars or practical classes. Usually an 80% attendance rate is required. Allowance for attendance does not mean total exemption from attending tutorials, seminars and practical classes.
